What our clientele are saying about MKB.

Project:
Total redesign for kitchen, including creating pass-through to dining room. MKB created the design, and I purchased Cabico cabinets from them.

Comments:
Keith created a beautiful and very professional design for our kitchen. He added details that gave our small townhouse kitchen a designer look and created a more open floor plan for the 40 year old space. We added a pass-through that was carefully sized and placed because it impacted the whole first level of the townhouse. He persuaded us from making design decisions that we would have regretted, and he was right. He is pleasant to work with. The MKB showroom in Rockville has a relaxed and welcoming atmospere if you are inclined to help yourself as you ponder decisions, as I am. Getting to the final plans was definitely the rate-limiting step in the kitchen remodel process. Responsiveness from the firm to phone and email questions was slow. There was a measuring error that required modification of the plan on one wall and modification of the delivered custom cabinets. That part was frustrating, but if you are patient, working with Keith is worth it. The design exceeded our expectations, and with time, the inconvenience of the process is forgotten, and the beautiful kitchen remains yours to enjoy. I am giving MKB an ‘A” because I think the final outcome is more important than the process.

Project:
MK&B gave me 3 possible designs for a kitchen renovation. All were excellent. I selected one and purchased cabinets from MK&B, and granite through them.

Comments:
Keith came to my house to talk about what I wanted. He was very knowledgeable and had lots of ideas. He sent me 3 great designs. I chose the mid-level design. I asked him lots of questions about why he did certain things and he had good answers for all of it. I went with everything he recommended, with a couple of minor exceptions. I purchased cabinets and granite from him. I used his recommended source for appliances. My contractor did all the work. MK&B was responsive and good to work with, although sometimes they were a little slow in responding to questions. A few things didn’t arrive with the cabinet shipment and they took care of it without delay. I love my kitchen and so does everyone who’s seen it.

Plain_Fancy

Over 40 years ago, Plain & Fancy founder, John Achey, had a hobby of cabinet making – handcrafted, hand rubbed, extraordinarily handsome cabinets. Then the Achey family began building cabinetry in their Richland, PA garage and one of America’s most sought after custom cabinetry brands was born. It was named, quite simply, for the cabinets they made – plain ones and fancy ones. In 2004, Plain & Fancy officially began crafting cabinet doors at its brand new, state-of-the-art door and millwork manufacturing facility, and in 2008, a high-tech, precision, ultra-efficient finishing facility made its impressive debut. Boasting 44,000 sq. ft. and state-of-the-art Italian finishing equipment, the finishing facility compliments hand-applied finishes and treatments.

Countertops are the workhorse of the kitchen and now there are more choices than ever before. Composite countertops have grown significantly in popularity and usage in the past few years.

Composites/quartz materials are a mixture of both natural stone and acrylic resin with added pigments to create a very natural looking or vibrantly colorful countertop. The advantage of using these surface types for kitchen countertops is their non-porous structure which is non-staining and heat resistant. Brand names include:

  • Caesarstone
  • Cambria
  • Zodiaq
  • Silestone
  • Samsung

Natural stone countertops are a beautiful addition to your kitchen. Every rock pulled from the earth has its own mineral color, veining and speckles brought vividly to life by stoneworkers’ saws and polishing wheels. So whether you select a classic white marble, sky-blue granite or a beige travertine-embedded with fossilized seashells, your countertop will stand up to the rigors of everyday use and be as distinctive as an original work of art. Like composite stones, natural stone countertops are unaffected by hot pans or water and a stone countertop will last as long as your house—maybe even longer.

Cultured Marble and Other Materials

  • Butcher Block – Available from standard wood species up to the most exotic in type. Available in custom thickness and shapes. It is the perfect accent material to create that furniture look.
  • Corian – Flowing, virtually seamless, organic shapes, bold effects of color and translucency — if it can be imagined, it can be created with DuPont™ Corian® solid surface.
  • Cultured Marble – Available in a large assortment of standard and custom-blended colors and can match all major plumbing appliance manufacturers’ factory colors.
  • Meganite – A nonporous homogeneous solid surface with the elegance of real stone, is low maintenance and does not promote or support bacteria or germ growth.
  • Stainless Steel

Here is what other professionals are saying about MKB.

We have worked with Keith Hudson of Montgomery Kitchen and Bath since 1997.  During the last 16 years, Montgomery Kitchen and Bath has provided and most often installed a majority of our kitchens, bath vanities, built-ins and custom millwork for a variety of project styles all over the Washington Metro area.  They have also traveled with me to the Eastern Shore and the surrounding mountains and beaches.  Putting together a custom kitchen or custom millwork often has 100 or more pieces that have to get shipped to a job site, installed into existing spaces that are most often not level or square .. And have to interface with a variety of appliances and fixtures and finishes.   Keith Hudson and his staff have strong technical knowledge and the experience of working with myself and many other designers to put together truly unique spaces.    It is important to understand that when doing custom projects and millwork, doors will come in damaged, parts may come in missing and even when they come in correctly, a general contractor’s carpenters who don’t work with the cabinets every day may end up installing things wrong or messing up cuts during installation.  Ballard + Mensua continues to use Montgomery Kitchen and Bath as a first choice because of the fact that they have always seen projects through to a successful completion.

This truly separates them from many other kitchen places where they do not see projects through, they try to charge for solving problems and in general try to avoid blame.  In addition, Montgomery offers a wide variety of quality cabinet lines, with something for every taste in terms of style .. And levels of cabinets that can fit any budget from beer to champagne.  Cabico cabinets have done amazing things for us; Espresso now offers a good cost saving alternative with the same Cabico quality when projects can stay more inside the box.  Where clients need high gloss exotic veneers or features outside of Cabico’s comfort zone, National Forest Products can make absolutely anything.   We highly recommend Montgomery Kitchen and Bath to homeowners, developers or architects looking for a quality product and service.

Chuck Sullivan Homes builds high quality true custom homes so it is absolutely critical that the design is well thought out both from an aesthetic perspective and a practical side. The kitchen is the heart of the house and it must be spectacular yet functional. The owner’s bathroom is the retreat and it must be stunning and spacious. Montgomery Kitchen and Bath provides excellent design concepts that repeat themes found in other parts of the home. It’s the details that separate our kitchens and baths from our competition. In addition MK&B personnel are great with our custom clients so they can see their dreams come alive. I highly recommend MK&B for any project. They have designed and installed our last 10 award winning homes. I’m glad they are a part of our team.

As a residential architect, my projects often include kitchens, either new or makeovers. After doing the conceptual and structural design for a kitchen, I usually recommend that my clients contact MKB, who are happy to give cost estimates and help refine the design. Keith Hudson and Linda Granville then bring their experience to bear, and my projects benefit from this. My clients have been uniformly happy with the results, which combine design excellence with economy. I have created more than 20 kitchens in collaboration with MKB, both traditional and contemporary, and can highly recommend them to others.
